Colorado Springs Homesteaders Enjoy Country Life In the City

A bountiful harvest from the garden. Fresh eggs daily. Goat milk.

Urban homesteaders can enjoy a significant taste of the country life without leaving the city.

The third annual Colorado Springs Urban Homestead Tour, a self-guided excursion to more than a d en homesteads, is this weekend. Among those opening their gates to the public: the Nipp family, in the Old Farm neighborhood.

The Nipps call their place The Busy Quarter Acre. On that quarter acre they have chickens, goats, rabbits and a thriving garden.

Brian and Leanne Nipp bought the house and land from Leanne’s mother 12 years ago. There was already a backyard garden, but Brian and Leanne expanded it. A couple of years later, they got chickens so they could have fresh eggs in addition to fresh produce.
